Physically, this has been a rough summer. A broken hand, a strained hip, and a flattened toe have had me tied to the couch for far too long. The result of all this spare time; Rock Rope Reborn, where retired rock climbing rope is stripped, cleaned, and repurposed into a variety of colorful products. 100% recycled and repurposed.

I’ll be the first to admit that this idea wasn’t my own. My good friend, and fellow climber, Malin Towne has been hard at work since February, fashioning climbing rope bracelets, anklets, and headbands with her organization Souri Avi. Please feel free to visit her blog and learn more about what her organization is all about. Having received one of her bracelets, I can personally vouch for their high quality. My bracelet has joined me on hundreds of miles of hiking trail, and been jammed into thousands of feet of vertical granite cracks, yet it still looks like the day it came in the mail.

With her blessing, I’ve made use of my hours of sitting and produced a variety of dog collars and leashes. The products come in a variety of colors and sizes. Field-tested on my Neapolitan mastiff Moose, the collars and leashes are as durable as they are eye-catching. Currently, the collars are nonadjustable; the design and my craftsmanship improve with every product created. Personally, I prefer Moose’s collar to fit loose, he minds well on a leash and it makes his head look even bigger! Being brightly colored, the collars are great for hiking (especially during the coming hunting season). Some are even fashioned with bear bells! The collars and leashes are great conversation starters at the neighborhood dog park, on the hiking trail, or at your local climbing crag.
